QueenElizabethSr_Arts_Logo.jpgAre you interested in dance? Drama? Music? Visual arts? Then Queen Elizabeth regional Arts program (QEArts) is for you! Let your imagination soar as you explore this whole new arts experience.

Now entering its eighteenth year, QEArts is the regional arts program for grade 7 and 8 Peel students who live south of the 401.  Queen Elizabeth Senior Public School is located in south Mississauga.  Through this intensive integrated arts program, Peel students have the opportunity to study dance, drama, music, and visual arts while completing the regular grade 7 and 8 curriculum.

In QE Arts, students with similar interests explore their creativity through a challenging and innovative arts program.  The program offers many opportunities for students to develop collaborative and creative skills while learning through the arts.   Students have intensive blocks of time with subject specialists, certified Peel teachers, to concentrate fully on the arts program.

Peel Board Regional Learning Choices Programs are open to all students. Students who live in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga will be offered spots first.  Students who live outside of Peel Region will be offered spots once local student applicants have been accommodated.  In some cases, all spots may be offered to students who live in Peel.

QEArts Application and Selection Process

The Selection Session for students presently enrolled in Grade 6 will be held on two afternoons:  Tuesday, February 18 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, February 25 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth Sr. P.S. Grade 7 QEArts positions are open to all current grade 6 students in the region, south of the 401, keeping in mind that transportation is NOT provided. Families will need to arrange transportation.  Grade 8 positions are not available.

The Selection Session is an exciting opportunity for your child to collaborate with others while participating in cooperative group sessions involving all of the arts disciplines:  drama, dance, visual arts, and music.  Students do not need to prepare any performances or portfolios for the day.

There are 56 places in this program for students entering grade seven in September 2020.  If more than 56 students complete the selection process successfully, a random selection will determine which students are accepted into the program.

The online application will be available from January 27th - February 10th, 2020.  To access this application, please go to

Each application must be accompanied by a $40.00 non-refundable application fee (cash, certified cheque, money order or online payment).  In the event that a student is not able to provide the deposit, it will be waived with a letter from the student's current principal.  Upon acceptance, the cost of the QEArts program will be $200.00 (plus an instrument rental fee).

QEArts is housed at Queen Elizabeth Sr. Public School, 60 South Service Road, Mississauga.

QEArts Selection Procedure

CONTENT:  The selection session provides an opportunity to demonstrate potential abilities in the four areas of integrated arts: music, dance, drama, and visual arts. In order to provide equitable access for all students, it is not necessary to have any previous experience or preparation for the selection process.

TRANSPORTATION:  Parents/Guardians are responsible for transporting applicants to and from the selection session at QE Sr. P.S.  Parents are asked to ensure that students are picked up on time.

ATTENDANCE:  To ensure equity of opportunity for all students, attendance is essential.  QEArts will not hold private auditions, nor will taped performances be accepted.

ATTITUDE:  The most important part of the selection process is active participation.  Students should be encouraged to do their best.

Selection Session Requirements

Within an open environment, students will collaborate with others while participating in co-operative group sessions.  It is essential that students have a strong desire for learning through the arts:  music, visual arts, drama and dance. This session will provide the opportunity for students to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills, communication of creative ideas, collaboration and initiative through participation in the creative process.  It is not necessary for students to have any previous experience or preparation for this session.

During the course of the selection session, group leaders will be informally asking questions of the students in their group which will help determine each student's desire and commitment to be in the program.

Spectators, parents or guardians will not be permitted to remain for the session.

Please note that information nights for all elementary Regional Learning Choices Programs have been cancelled. For more information, please contact the school directly for the program of choice or visit the Elementary RLCP page.
