Our Mission

Our mission describes our school's purpose. Our vision depicts our desired future. The principles needed to achieve our mission and vision are articulated in our values. Finally, the actions we need to demonstrate to make our mission, vision and values a reality are described in our collective commitments.

We have developed these statements in collaboration with our staff, students and families. They are part of our School Success Plan.

Mission

Our school, Sherwood Mills Public School, is committed to partnership, where the school, family and community work together to provide all students with varied opportunities to pursue academic excellence and achieve personal success.

Vision

At Sherwood Mills Public School, we will grow and develop as an inclusive learning community. High expectations for all students in their academic achievement and conduct will be upheld. Students will develop their critical thinking skills and creativity, becoming lifelong learners and problem solvers. As respectful and responsible citizens of our school community, students will appreciate and celebrate the diversity within our Canadian mosaic. Teacher practice will be guided by research and on-going professional development.

Staff Commitments

  • Respect - Integrate the Future We Want into the curriculum through each grade level's long-range planning document
  • Responsibility - Provide caring learning environment for students, prepare interesting/challenging lessons, keep parents informed of child's progress
  • Team work -Collaborate with colleagues, students, parents & Board support staff to provide all student with opportunities to achieve personal success
  • High expectations - Teacher practice will continue to be guided by research and on-going participation in professional development.
  • Positive Attitude - Teachers will commit to meet individual students' needs in a caring, consistent and friendly learning environment

Student Commitments

  • Respect - students will treat other students, teachers and school staff as they would like to be treated
  • Responsibility - students will come to school prepared to learn, to allow others to learn and to allow teachers to teach
  • Positive Attitude - students will be active participants by getting involved in as many activities as possible and maintaining a cooperative spirit

Parent Commitments

  • Responsibility - Parents will support and respect the classroom rules and expectations and where concerns arise, communicate directly with the teacher
  • Team Work - Parents will maintain an open and honest communication with teachers and attend school information sessions and parent-teacher meetings.
  • High Expectations - Parents will encourage their child to be responsible for their learning(ex. homework) to empower them to become lifelong learners.
