Report student absences through new SafeArrival system

Report student absences through new SafeArrival system

Beginning Sept. 6, 2016, all parents/guardians need to report their children's full-day absences, late arrivals and/or early departures from school via our new automated SafeArrival phone number at 1-855-209-6155, online at pdsb.schoolconnects.com, or by downloading the mobile app (through your phone's app store) for Apple and Android devices.  For absences longer than 5 consecutive school days, please contact the school office.

Parents are encouraged to provide an email address to schools. Parents who have an email address on file at school will receive an email invitation from Synrevoice Technologies during the week of August 29. The invitation will include login information. Starting the week of August 29, parents who do not have an email address on file at the school can visit pdsb.schoolconnects.com and choose CREATE LOGIN to create your account and receive login credentials that can be used online or with the mobile app. Parents need to have a cell phone that is capable of receiving text messages to complete the setup process.  The cell phone number must be on file with the school. All three options are available 24 hours a day.

There is no longer an absence reporting phone line at school. If you have any questions or require any assistance, contact the school directly.

Week of September 26th At Hawthorn

Week of September 26th At Hawthorn

Dear Hawthorn Families ,

This is a reminder that Tuesday September 27th is a 'Re-organization Day' for elementary schools in the Peel District School Board and there is no school for students on that day.

This year Hawthorn was unaffected by reorganization for classes in grades 1 to 8, however we did have some changes in Kindergarten.  We were still able to keep both Kindergarten classes, however due to low enrolment in these two classes each having 18 students compared to the Board average of 26, we were reorganized to two classes with one class of 23 students a Teacher and an ECE and one class with 15 students and a teacher.  As a result Ms. Morrison our ECE in Mrs. Stevenson's class was reassigned to another school with higher enrolment.

Thank you to parents for working with us during the implementation of the new 'safe arrival attendance reporting system.  A reminder that you need to call  the SafeArrival phone number at 1-855-209-6155, online at http://pdsb.schoolconnects.com , or by downloading the mobile app (through your phone's app  store) for Apple and Android devices.  For absences longer than 5 consecutive school days, please contact the school office. It is also very important to note that you cannot report an absence to the system after the school day begins at 9:00 AM.  After that time you will receive a phone call from the school indicating that you child is absence and you will be required to respond to the call.

Parent resources help you support your child’s learning

In October 2014, the Peel District School Board sought input from families to help guide the development of resources that help parents and caregivers support their children's learning. The result is a new Help Your Child online resource centre on the Peel board's website with the topics families said were important to them.

Dear Hawthorn Families,

We are trying to develop many different ways to communicate with our families.  One such way is through Twitter where you can get daily information about what is happening at your child's school by following Hawthorn  on twitter @Hawthornps.  In addition to important information.  This is another way for you to be in touch with what is going on at the school.

Below is a direct link to twitter where you can set up an account.  Once that is done you can follow us by searching our name @Hawthornps.  There is also a direct link to our twitter account on the Hawthorn website http://hawthorn.peelschools.org .  In the top right corner there you will see the twitter symbol ( a small bird).  Once you click on that it will go directly to our twitter account.  We hope to get as many families singed up as possible.
