In the Peel District School Board’s French Immersion (FI) program at our school, students achieve a high level of proficiency in French, while they continue to develop English language skills.

Elementary FI program overview and transportation

From grades 1 to 8, FI students spend half of their school day learning in French and the other half learning in English.

The Peel board provides busing for students in the elementary FI program. Depending on how far a family lives from the nearest FI school, an elementary child may qualify for busing. The board determines busing based on the age of the students and the distance from the school.

Parents can visit the Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR) website at www.stopr.ca and enter their address to determine if their child is eligible for busing, and to find out the bus stop and route information.

Secondary FI program overview and transportation

In high school, FI students are required to complete 10 credits in French. By the end of the four year secondary school program, students will have successfully completed the sequence of four courses in French Immersion and a minimum of six courses in other subjects taught in French. By the end of high school, Immersion students have proficiency in both French and English. When they graduate, they receive a certificate of French Immersion studies.

Busing eligibility for FI is in accordance with Board Policy 39 - Transportation.
