Peel board schools, programs to remain open in event of Brampton transit strike

Peel board schools, programs to remain open in event of Brampton transit strike

The City of Brampton and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1573 continue to negotiate a collective agreement. In the event of a transit strike, Brampton Transit and Züm buses will not operate; all transit facilities and terminals will be closed. The Union will be in a legal strike position at 12:01 a.m. on May 9, 2016.

If there is a transit strike, all Peel District School Board schools and programs (e.g. Dual Credit Programs, Co-operative Education Programs, Night School classes, etc.) will remain open and continue to run. Students who use Brampton Transit will be responsible for making alternative transportation arrangements to attend school and/or their programs. All Peel board operated school buses will continue to run.

For updates on the potential strike, visit www.brampton.ca, follow the City of Brampton on Twitter @CityBrampton or on their Facebook account at www.facebook.com/CityBrampton

The Peel District School Board has a long history of fiscal responsibility, focused on a mission to inspire success, confidence and hope in each student. Through our goal to use resources effectively to enhance student achievement, the board has been able to do so in an efficient and sustainable manner, while supporting the needs of all learners.

Peel board says, “Facts matter,” provides factual guide to revised HPE curriculum

The Peel District School Board has produced Working together to keep our students safe and healthy: a parent's guide to the revised Health and Physical Education curriculum. The guide provides factual information about the revised curriculum, the actions the board has taken in response, and a grade-by-grade chart of what students will learn. The guide will be distributed to every parent with students in grades 1 to 12.

Parent resources help you support your child’s learning

In October 2014, the Peel District School Board sought input from families to help guide the development of resources that help parents and caregivers support their children's learning. The result is a new Help Your Child online resource centre on the Peel board's website with the topics families said were important to them.
