Counting On You - Session Two is being offered at Centennial Senior P.S.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

"With the right literacy and numeracy skills, students have the foundation to do well in all areas of the curriculum.  Some students just need a little extra help – the kind they get in Counting on You"; a free-of-charge, language and math assistance program offered by the Peel District School Board at Centennial.  COY provides students in Grades 7 and 8 the extra support and attention needed to be more successful in school.

Knowing students are 'hungry to learn', snacks and drinks and are provided on a weekly basis along with occasional treats and performance rewards. Centennial's 9 week, after-school program operates 4 hours per week; 2 hours each Monday and Tuesday as follows.  Pending your schedule, you can choose one or both days

MATH MONDAYS for both Grade 7 and 8's:  Classes run from 2:30 – 4:30 pm.  The first class is

Monday, January 7th. On that day only, students will initially meet in the Library for teacher introductions and a brief overview of program expectations (e.g., attendance, behaviour, etc.) before being escorted to their classroom.

LANGUAGE TUESDAYS for both Grade 7 and 8's.  Classes run from 2:30 – 4:30 pm.  The first class is

Tuesday, January 8th.  On that day only, students will initially meet in the Library for teacher introductions and a brief overview of program expectations (e.g., attendance, behaviour, etc.) before being escorted to their classroom.

Although both Grade levels attend on the same day, they are taught independently of each other as per the Ontario Math and Language curriculums.  For those students who have not missed more than 2 classes per subject, there will be a celebratory lunch on Wednesday, March 5th in the Library.  Students will receive further information about this event via their COY teacher.

Eligibility for this after-school program is based on various factors including parent/student input, current marks, teacher/principal recommendations, etc.  Students in COY receive instruction in small group learning environments taught by Centennial teachers.  This format allows teachers to individualize and customize support; providing instruction specifically geared to their students' needs, interests and abilities. Through their active participation and commitment, COY can make a positive difference in students' academic standing and attitude toward learning while increasing levels of self-esteem and self-confidence.

If you wish to enrol your child in the program, please return the bottom portion of the letter (found in the documents section) directly to:

Ms. Schneller (Room 123), COY Lead Teacher.

Sincerely,

Mr. W. Lee, Principal & Ms. A. Schneller, COY Lead Teacher
