SciTech Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend the SciTech Program?
Any Peel student who lives within the Centennial Senior SciTech boundary and is currently in Grade 5 may apply for this 3 year program. Including students who are receiving ESL or special education assistance. Each year 84 new students are admitted to the Grade 6 program.


What is the purpose of the Workshop?
Each student will be evaluated on the way he/she works cooperatively as part of a team, takes responsibility for the task and is focused. Reporting on the assigned task by answering questionsto support their findings.


Are all subjects taught in SciTech?
Yes, all Ministry of Education expectations are followed. SciTech is a full time program. With the integration of science and technology to enhance, and extend the students academic experience.


What should the applicants marks be?
All applications, will be considered. Successful applicants are usually "A and B students".


How does this program compare to gifted programs?
It doesn't. Gifted programs have a different focus. Our focus is Science and Technology .


What happens if my child has an IEP (Individual Education Plan)?
If your child has been identified by an IPRC as Exceptional and has an IEP, the IEP will continue to support your child in their studies.

Is there a tour of the school?
Yes, if accepted into the program. The date and time will be e-mailed between mid-May and the end of May.


Is transportation provided?
No. It's the parents responsibility to provide transportation. Parents may independently arrange car pooling or apply and pay for private bussing.


Will being in the Centennial Senior SciTech program guarantee my child a spot in a high school regional program (SciTech, IBT, IB, Arts)?
No. In grade 8, all students will have the choice of applying for any of the regional programs and proceed through the application process, or to attend their home school.


Is there before and after school care provided?
No.


What if I am late for the workshop time?
Due to the large number of applicants, we may not be able to accommodate you. Ensure that you set aside the appropriate amount of time to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled workshop.

Acceptance, wait list and unsucessful applicant results will be emailed in April.


What is the deadline to accept an offer?
All dates can be found on the front page or the applications dates page.​


Can applicants apply for the grade 7 and 8 SciTech classes?
No.


​Are there any suggestions on how I should prepare my child for the workshop in order for him/her to be a successful? 
No.The workshop has a written component involving literacy and numeracy at the Grade 5 level and a practical component where students will be grouped into teams to plan and build a structure together.
