School Council Principal’s Report January 31, 2013
1. Positive Climate for Learning and Working
- looking for parent volunteers to help with fundraising including Dance-a-thon, Pizza Days, The Scrap Metal Drive, School Council Rose Sales, Family Movie Nights
- next information meeting for new volunteers will be on Tuesday, February 5
2. Safety and Traffic
- more students who live on the south side of Pantomine are crossing with the crossing guard in front of the school
- safer for students as they don’t have to cross further down the street where there isn’t a crossing guard
- now talking to parents who park at the front of the school afterschool
3. Community Connections
-“Cram a Cruiser” – Mrs. Calvano’s class won the honour of loading up the 4 police cruisers and 1 van that were needed for all of the food that was generously donated
- “Mitten” Tree donations were given to Peel Outreach
- Winner of TWO United Way Awards – The Student Leadership Award and the A Staff Recognition Award
4. Out Reach Calendar
- February 2 – Family Swimming Day @ South Fletcher’s
- prize incentive – three ballots in January to May à entered in a grand prize draw for a gift certificate to Fallsview Indoor Waterpark
- look for activity suggestions in the newsletter
5. Camp Bondar and Camp I Can
- registration for the March session has started
- 5 full days of fun learning!!!
- theme for Kindergarten to grade 3 is Eric Carle with a trip to Reptilia in Vaughn
- theme for grade 4 to 6 is Bondar Idol with a trip to the Hard Rock Cafe
- theme for grade 7 and 8 is Media Moguls with a trip to the Roger’s Centre and the Hard Rock Cafe

School Council Principal’s Report September 20, 2012
1. Enrollment and Staffing
- some minor changes at the grade 5 and 6 level to eliminate the grade 5/6 class
2. Prorgess Report Cards (grade 1 to 8)
- will be sent home on October 24
- interviews/goal setting conferences will be on November 1 (evening) and 2 (daytime)
- comments are focussed on Learning Skills, Literacy, Numeracy and French
3. Positive Climate for Learning and Working
- the PRO grant proposal was approved for the Facebook 101 presentation for students (grade 5 to 8) and parents for November 22, 2012
- looking for Council’s help in promoting this speaker and with babysitting for the evening
- Monday, November 19 – “Cyberbullying’s Got To Go” presentation for grades 1 to 4
- these 2 dates will be our next Stand Up to Bullying days (wear pink)
- have purchased new teaching materials to support learning about the “isms”
- new mural is finished in the hallway outside rooms 101-106
4. Safety and Traffic
- switching the kiss n’ ride and the bus has already made a huge difference, especially in the morning
- parents may continue to park in the side parking lot
- have been asking parents not to park on the road, especially in the morning
- have been asking all walkers to cross the road where there is a crossing guard
5. Community Connections
- continue to have opportunities over the next few months to visit the school
- Sharing Assembly on Wednesday, September 25
- Book Fair October 30 to November 5
- Movie night scheduled for Thursday, October 25 may happen or may need to be postponed
- Family Swimming day at South Fletcher’s will be on Saturday, November 3
6. Out Reach Calendar
- many ballots were handed in for August and September
- parents are encouraged to look at the newsletter and the bulletin board for suggestions for activities
- extra copies are $5.00
7. Camp Bondar and Camp I Can
- over 50 students registered for Camp I Can (grade 7 & 8)
- almost 40 students from Ray Lawson PS will be joining us for Camp Bondar as well as 2 Lawson teachers
- in total, 110 students coming to Camp Bondar (kindergarten to grade 6)
8. World Teacher’s Day
- celebrated during our October break so at Bondar we will celebrate on November 1

Principal’s Update |
- Enrollment and staffing: no staff gain/loss. One grade 5/6 class eliminated
- Progress Report Cards to be sent home on October 24.
- PRO grant proposal approved for full amount, Facebook presentation set for Nov.22
- Switching the kiss n’ ride and bus locations has made a real difference, especially in the morning traffic
- Book Fair Oct 30-Nov 5 in the library
- Extra copies of Outreach calendars available for $5
- Ray Lawson will join RBPS for Camp Bondar, total of 110 students registered for Oct camp
- World Teacher's Day will be celebrated on Nov.1. It would be great to spread the word and send notes of appreciation to teachers. Discussion on providing breakfast to teachers on behalf of School Council on Nov.2

EQAO Results |
- EQAO results from Grade 3 and Grade 6 were discussed. With the exception of Grade 3 Reading, RBPS did better than Board and Province in Reading and Writing in 2012-2012.

- It was discussed and agreed that the SC funds (from the scrap metal and rose sales) will go towards the Teacher’s breakfast and on Reading programs.

1. Positive Climate for Learning and Working
- have booked “Facebook 101” presentations for students and parents for November 22, 2012
- won’t hear about the Parents Reaching Out Grant application until October
- will be looking for Council’s help in promoting this speaker
- first Stand Up to Bullying day (wear pink) will be on Thursday, August 16
- speaker booked from “Stay Driven” for September 6 www.staydriven.com
- new mural will be painted in the hallway outside rooms 101-106
2. Community, Culture and Caring Goal – Student Leadership
- goal is to continue to provide more opportunities for student leadership through a wider variety of extra-curricular and “in class” activities
- activities planned so far: cheerleading (gr. 5-8), Step Dance (gr. 6-8), Yoga (gr. 6-8), Walking School Bus, Yearbook, Primary Choir (gr. 1 & 2), Primary Dance Club, Boys’ Club
3. Safety and Traffic

- parents may continue to park in the side parking lot
- will be asking parents not to park on the road, especially in the morning

- will continue track which classes have had a “perfect day” on Walk to School Wednesdays when all students either walk or take the bus

- lots of opportunities over the next few months to visit the school and get to know the Bondar community
- on Thursday, July 26 we hosted a “Welcome to Bondar” mini open house and tour for all new families
- BBQ and Open House on Thursday, August 9
- Tea Times with the Principal on Friday, August 24 (8:15 am) and Friday, September 14 (2:00 pm)
- family skating and swim day will continue this year at South Fletcher’s Sportsplex
- first family skating day will be Saturday, August 25 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM
- parent information night about Secondary School programs on Thursday, September 20
