INFORMATION ON TEENAGE DEPRESSION

INFORMATION ON TEENAGE DEPRESSION

At this month's school assembly we had a mental health presentation about Teenage Depression.

The students watched a video related to depression: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8EPzkxAiVw

If students are feeling depressed, they are encouraged to reach out and talk about it with someone they trust and ask an adult for help. At school, they can always talk to Guidance, Contact, BTA, the Principal, Vice Principal or a Teacher.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. There is a solution to every problem if you open up and talk about it. If someone is suffering from depression they need to get help from a mental health professional and receive treatment as soon as possible, like therapy and medication.

Mentorship Program for Black Male Youth Presentation

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
At Fallingbrook we support, acknowledge and celebrate the many cultures of our community. As part of our journey to support members of the community, we will be facilitating a mentorship program for our black male youth. Research indicates that males who have mentors feel more supported and in turn are more engaged and motivated. The connections formed during mentorship programs reiterate the notion that students are expected to succeed, this has been a focal point of research conducted by and with PDSB, TDSB, and the Ministry of Ontario. Our aim is to provide the Fallingbrook MS students who identify as Black Males an opportunity to connect with peers, dialogue about local and global concerns, strategize on solutions to commonly faced obstacles, and access experiences that enhance a greater sense of awareness. We invite you to come and learn more about our Mentorship Program for Black Male Youth on Wednesday, January 17th , 2018 from 6:00 pm - 7:00pm
