As you have seen in the media, the recent floods in Pakistan, triggered by weeks of torrential monsoons, have affected an estimated 14 million people—6 million of whom are children. This is more people than the Tsunami, the Kashmir earthquake and the Haiti earthquake combined. One-fifth of the country is now underwater. The area ravaged by the water is estimated to be at least 160,000 square kilometres—larger than the size of England.

During the 2009-10 school year, Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR) launched its new GeoQuery website at http://businfo.stopr.ca. Parents can access important information about their child’s transportation for the 2010-11 school year on the website as of Aug. 16.

Peel schools provide a safe environment for students and staff to learn and work. The board has many procedures to ensure safety-including regular fire drills, evacuation plans, criminal record checks for new staff and volunteers and lockdown drills. Together with Peel Police and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board, the board developed a lockdown procedure to help keep schools safe during a potentially serious or violent incident.

Each year, many of our families spend thousands of dollars when their children are injured at school, on field trips or at home. For pennies a day, this can all be avoided.
