All Peel board schools closed Feb. 21 due to one-day strike

​The four largest education unions in Ontario, including the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF), announced a one-day strike in schools across the province on Feb. 21, 2020.

As a result, all Peel board elementary and secondary schools will be closed to kindergarten to grade 12 students on Friday, Feb. 21.

​​As you know, secondary and elementary teachers in Ontario are currently taking part in a legal job action. This means that they are able to withdraw services, up to and including a full withdrawal—strike. ​​On Nov. 7, 2019, Minister of Education Stephen Lecce announced a review of the Peel District School Board to provide observations and recommendations related to issues of human rights, equity, and racism, specifically anti-Black racism, human resources practices, leadership and issues of governance and trustee conduct. Three independent reviewers have led the review process since then, and provided the Minister of Education with an Interim Report in December 2019. On Jan. 27, 2020, the Minister's office released a statement and the Interim Report. ​​

Peel families invited to “Start with a Smile” and register for kindergarten

​​Peel District School Board elementary schools are currently accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2020-21 school year. ​Children born in 2016 can start school in September 2020. Families can register their child for kindergarten any time during school hours by completing the online registration forms in advance and visiting the school that their child will attend during school hours. ​Visit the board's Kindergarten website ​to learn more.

Elementary teachers to begin phase 3 work-to-rule on Jan. 13 unless progress is made at provincial bargaining table

On Jan. 9, 2020, Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) announced that job action would escalate in public elementary schools across Ontario beginning Jan. 13, unless progress is made at the provincial bargaining table. Phase 3 of ETFO work-to-rule is set to begin next week.
