Shelter Bay and 74 other schools in Peel are participating in a study about Active and Safe Routes to school (i.e., students who are walking, biking or driven to school). A group of Sick Children's Hospital physicians and specialists research are conducting this research, with York University students collecting much of the data.
This study will not take place on school property, and will not involve any students/parents from the school. Two trained researchers will stand outside school property to conduct counts of children walking/biking/or driven to school for 25 mins during the morning drop-off period. They will wear visible SickKids and York University stickers to identify themselves as the researchers and will check-in with the school office the morning of. Observations will be completed only once at the school between May 1 to June 22, unless a second visit is required to improve accuracy of counts. We will be given an individualized school report, probably next fall, based on the data collected.
Please check in at the office if you would like a copy of further information.
