Thomas Street School Council
The Thomas Street School Council is a group of parents and educators whose goal is to improve student success by engaging parents in the education system in meaningful ways. We meet several times throughout the year to hear about what is happening within the school and to talk about school policies, programs and projects. Attending a school council meeting is one of the best ways to keep in touch with what is going on at Thomas Street Middle School and it gives you a chance to get involved and have your say! The school council also organizes teams of volunteers to help the school with important projects and events.
Our organizational meeting for 2010/2011 will be held Monday, September 20 at 7:00pm in the school library. If you are interested in joining the school council, you should try to attend this meeting. As with all school council meetings, all parents are encouraged to attend. At this meeting, dates will be set for the remaining meetings in 2010/2011.
If you have a question or comment for the school council, you can contact us at any time. Our e-mail address is: thomasstms.council@peelsb.com.
School Council Update - June
The School Council is a group of volunteers, including parents, administrators and staff. The purpose of the School Council is to help build a partnership between home and school so that we can all support our kids and foster student success.
Next year is going to be an interesting one, full of many changes and important events. The new provincial school nutrition and fundraising policies are coming into effect. TSMS will have a new Superintendent of Education and a new School Council chair, and there is a provincial election in October. One thing we know that won’t change is that Thomas Street is a fantastic school with exceptionally dedicated staff and a deep commitment to strong parental engagement. If ever there was a year to take in a School Council meeting or two, next year will be it! The first School Council meeting for 2011/2012 has been scheduled for Monday, September 26, 2011 at 6:30pm. School Council meetings are a great way to keep informed and to have your say about important policy issues that impact your children’s school. Whether you want to actively participate in our discussions or simply come to listen, we hope that you’ll join us.
You can contact the School Council by e-mail or through the school office. If you have questions about the School Council and the work we do, or if you have a comment or suggestion to pass along, you can always contact us by e-mail at thomasstms.council@peelsb.com. We are always eager to hear your comments, questions and suggestions. You can get information from the School Council on our blog at http://tsmscouncil.wordpress.com. Our second annual Gr. 8 Career Day was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011. This was a great opportunity for students to learn about a wide variety of careers and to be given some tools for thinking about how their interests and abilities might be translated into a rewarding career someday. The school council would like to thank the many parents, local business owners and other friends of the school who spent their day with our students to share their career stories, as well as the staff and administration of the school who worked so hard to organize this outstanding event.
