Dear Grade 3 Families,
I would like to share with you some information about the EQAO test, which is fast approaching.
The EQAO’s provincial test provides our school with information we need to deliver effective teaching strategies and support each one of our students. This data is used in combination with ongoing classroom assessment to develop our School Success Plan.
Each question on every EQAO test is based on learning expectations set out in The Ontario Curriculum.
Preparing students for the tests means teaching them:
• to understand what they read;
• to clearly communicate their thoughts in writing, and
• to use appropriate math skills to solve problems.
This year your child has been practicing these skills, which are reinforced in all subjects.
I know that as your child’s parents and caregivers you are very interested in your child’s progress at school.
I encourage you to find out more about the EQAO test, by going to www.eqao.com. You will be able to access Ministry reports and sample tests from prior years.
Soon your child’s teacher will send home sample questions both in Math and Language for you to attempt with your child. As you practice with your son/daughter you will be able to get first-hand experience of the provincial test’s scope and expectations.
As well, all Peel students are able to access the Premier software program (Reading and Writing) by downloading it from the Peel Board Website. Your child may find this software useful as you work with your child at home.
Please feel free to give me a call, should you have any questions.
