Improvements scheduled to be made to the sports field at Applewood Heights Secondary School

Dear Applewood Heights Students & Families:

I'm writing with exciting news to share with you about improvements that are scheduled to be made to the sports field at Applewood Heights Secondary School. Recently, the Peel District School Board entered into an agreement with Community Sports Partners for the construction and operation of a revitalized sports field at Applewood Heights Secondary School.

Starting soon, work will begin to install an artificial turf field, walking/running track, LED lighting and fencing on the sports field. LED lights (softer than halogen and incandescent lights) will be directed towards the field to minimize overflow lighting beyond the field. The track and field will not be covered with a dome; this is an open-air space. The Peel board is covering the cost of the design and construction of the walking/running track and Community Sports Partners is covering all remaining design and construction costs associated with these improvements, including maintenance-related costs.

We expect the renovations to the Applewood Heights school track and field to begin in late-April 2018, with an estimated completion date of September 2018. We will do everything we can to minimize the disruption to our students and community, but as with most construction projects, we expect some dust and noise during the construction. In the end, the revitalized track and field will be well worth the temporary inconvenience.

Applewood Heights school teams will have priority use of the revitalized field during regular school hours. As part of the agreement, Community Sports Partners will have the opportunity to use the facility for their leagues and to rent the field out to community groups outside of regular school hours. Free use by not-for-profit community groups will be offered, subject to availability. Community Sports Partners will be responsible for fee-setting and facility bookings outside of school use.

The Peel board is looking forward to partnering with Community Sports Partners to bring top-notch facilities and programming to our students and community. Please contact Greg Pearson, principal, at 905-279-6090, if you have any questions about the field improvements. Thank you in advance for your patience and support.

Sincerely,
