Congratulations to all of our students who signed up to write the various Mathematics contests during this academic year.

We take this opportunity to recognize the following students for their performances in the Pascal, Cayley and Fermat contests. Medals are given to the school’s top student for each contest. Certificates of Distinction are presented to students ranked in the top twenty-five percent of contestants in their respective contests:

Pascal (Grade 9)

School Champion Medal: Mohammed Zaman

Cayley (Grade 10)

School Champion Medal: Brianne Laverty
Certificate of Distinction:  Brianne Laverty, Sam Paknia, Monta Gao, Kaitlyn Green

Fermat (Grade 11)

School Champion Medal: Yutong Chen
Certificate of Distinction:
Yutong Chen and Robert Leslie

Ten of our grade 12 students wrote the Euclid contest on April 17 and eighteen students in grades 9, 10 and 11 wrote the Fryer, Galois and Hypatia contests on  April 18.

At this time of the semester students have completed about half of the material required to meet course expectations in Mathematics. We encourage parents and students to review the mid-term report and pay attention to the learning skills and teacher comments. Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 who need additional help in Math are invited to drop in to room 239 on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11:15 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. with their questions. Students are reminded not to wait until the day before an evaluation to get extra help. This should be done as soon as the need arises.

In addition, students who would like to upgrade their knowledge and marks in mathematics may consider attending summer school and are encouraged to visit their guidance counselors to sign up for classes.
