A Message from Your School Council
Teacher Appreciation Day:
On May 8, 2012, parents held a Teacher Appreciation Day in recognition of the great work of the Clarkson staff. I would like to thank the organizing committee, Margaret Morse, Cyndi Asbil and Jayne Manktelow for putting together a fantastic event. A special thank you to Brian Hudson for securing incredibly generous donations from our local Metro store. We would also like to say thanks for everyone's generosity and participation in this year's Teacher Appreciation Day celebration. The teachers and staff of Clarkson S.S. were very appreciative and enjoyed themselves immensely. We couldn't have done it without all the parents’ donations!
QSP:
During the course of the year, we received donations from parents and raised funds through our QSP magazine campaign. A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped us contribute to student life at Clarkson SS. This year, we received $1,630.00 in parent donations and $1,370.00 in QSP fundraising. With these funds, we were able to purchase BonPatron licenses in support of the Spanish and French program as well as a spotlight that will be used for all our assembly, plays and events. We have also funded the school council awards that have been handed out for several years at commencement. This year, we decided to review this process. An ad hoc committee reviewed the criteria to select recipients of these awards and following council discussion, the following criteria were defined for upcoming years. Ideal recipients would be:
· attending post-secondary education demonstrating exemplary school attendance;
· having academically achieved their fullest potential.
The Council agreed to fund 2 awards of $150.00 annually to assist them with their academic needs after high school. It was agreed that this funding must be derived from sources other than parent donations (QSP fundraising). The Guidance Office will take the criteria into account and select the recipients to be presented by a Council member in June at graduation.
This brings me to our QSP campaign. This year was our first year running this campaign and as you can see, it was very successful. Thank you to Margaret Morse for coordinating our efforts with this project. So, don't forget to renew your favorite magazine subscription, order a new title, or give a gift this summer. QSP runs all year long. Our school receives approximately 37% of the cost of each order placed on the QSP website. Simply go online to QSP.ca and use Clarkson's group number: 8891. Funds raised are used to support important goals and programs that benefit our school and its students.
Parent Donations:
As for our other fundraising, parents’ donations, the school has defined their wish list for the 2012-13 school year. Take a look at the attached donation form and see whether you are able to help with any of these items. In closing, I would like to thank all the members of this year’s council for their contribution and help during the year, Brian, Sue, Guylaine and Debbie. This is a very dedicated and dynamic group who truly cares about the future of Clarkson SS. I invite you to join us next year either as a member of the council or by attending all or one of our 4 meetings to be held on September 19, 2012, November 21, 2012, January 23, 2013 and April 17, 2013.
