CLARKSON'S MODERN ART BATIK CLUB CONTINUES!
The following Clarkson students have had an opportunity to train under the wonderful guidance of renowned Modern Batik Artist David Kibuuka: Claudia Yung, Jessica Hoang, and Rebecca Allison. Many of our students who trained with Mr. Kibuuka, have graduated from Clarkson and are currently attending post-secondary programs in the Arts. With further batik art training sessions held at the Rapport Youth Services in January and February, our students produced an outstanding calendar for 2011. The 2011 Modern Batik Art calendar featuring Clarkson students was the best selling calendar in the history of Rapport Youth and Family Services. Our students continue to excel at this art form!
With continued Modern Batik Art training, our Clarkson students were asked to submit original pieces fo
r display through the Ontario Parliament. Currently, the first work selected to hang at Queen's Park is called “Diversity World” by Claudia Yung. In the near future many of Clarkson’s Master Modern Batik artists may have their pieces hanging in the provincial parliament building!! We congratulate our students for this amazing honour. In February 2012, Modern Batik Prints by current Clarkson Chargers, Claudia Yung , Jessica Hoang and Rebecca Allison will be on display at the HJA Brown Education Centre, the head office of the Peel District School Board.

Our Clarkson Modern Batik Club hope to continue this momentum in the art of Modern Batik in the second semester, with David Kibuuka master artist, returning to Clarkson work with our Chargers for a time of creative expression, fun, training in Modern Batik techniques, and building a portfolio to be used to further art education. We invite all Chargers to join the Club and to visit the website created by our “Modern Batikers” at www.clubmodernbatik.com!
