PRESS RELEASE – March 7 2017

  • Clarkson Secondary School will be running its annual cancer Drive from April 18-22 2016. Last year staff and students raising $40,020.16

  • The charity drive was started in 1974 to acknowledge the teachers and students that had cancer that year. Since its inception the Clarkson Cancer Drive has always donated proceeds to cancer-related charities.  Money raised this year goes to Camp Oochigeas, a camp for children with cancer. More than $700,000 has been raised for cancer-related charities by Clarkson Secondary School since 1974.

  • The Cancer Drive is a one-week long, student-centred activity, where students run activities through their homeforms.  Staff sponsors for the event are Mr Sembay, and Mrs. Pedersen-Brown.

  • Major events this year will include a spare change drive, a chocolate milk-chug, a dodgeball tournament, a Rent-a-Friend auction, a Mud Run, an art auction and culminate with the "Leg Wax, Head Shave, Pie Toss" assembly, where students pledge money to see students shave their heads, and to hit some amenable teachers with whipped cream "pies".

  • Homeform activities vary from bake sales and pizza lunches, to sales of samosas, muffins, cotton candy, ice-cream and barbequed hotdogs.

  • Clarkson has 821 students.
