The French Immersion program at David Suzuki Secondary School is gradually being phased out and has been relocated to Brampton Centennial Secondary School. The last French Immersion cohort started DSSS during September, 2013 and these students are currently enrolled in grade 10 French Immersion classes. Grade 9 French Immersion classes no longer exist at David Suzuki Secondary School.

What is French Immersion?
French Immersion is an optional program designed to give children an opportunity to become fluent in Canada’s second official language, French.  It is a program offered nationally for children from primarily  English-speaking backgrounds. Its purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to learn a second language whereby French is the language of instruction and classroom communication, not a separate subject studied in isolation of other subjects. Neither the child entering the program nor his/her parents need to have any knowledge of the French language or culture. Students who have completed their elementary school education in either an Immersion or French first language program have the opportunity to continue their French language education at David Suzuki Secondary School.

Students enrolled in the French Immersion program at David Suzuki Secondary School will complete a minimum of 10 credits in French.  Upon graduation, students who have completed a minimum of 10 French Immersion courses, are eligible for the Immersion French Certificate of the Peel District School Board.

By the end of secondary school, students must complete ten credits in French. At David Suzuki Secondary School, French Immersion students will take the following courses:
