Physical and Health Education


Canada received a failing grade (D) in the fitness of our youth. Both our principal and the Physical and Health Education Department want you to stay fit and enjoy your life to the fullest. Remember-the body, mind and spirit are all connected and we need to work on bettering all these parts of ourselves.

Grade 9 Course


In the grade nine course our emphasis is on participation and fun. A wide variety of sports and activities are taught including basketball, volleyball, soccer, football, badminton, dance,aerobics, games, weight training, floor hockey, softball and fitness.

The health portion of the course involves violence and safety, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), sexuality and substance abuse.

Grade 10 and 11 Courses


Grade ten and eleven students have the choice of taking a course where sports are the emphasis : (ppl 20f or ppl 30f). In these courses students play basketball, volleyball, soccer, football, games, badminton and a number of other sports. Students can also choose a fitness based course(paf 20f or paf 30f) which includes aerobics, circuit training, weight training, yoga, pilates and some individual racquet sports and games.

Both courses also include a dance unit. Grade ten health covers sexuality , healthy eating and nutrition and conflict management. The grade eleven classes will cover mental health and healthy relationships. The grade tens & elevens have a unit in wall climbing and high ropes as part of their program.

Grade 12 Course


In grade twelve the open level courses include a sports emphasis course similar to the grade ten and eleven but more strategy based and a fitness emphasis course which includes a number of different workouts involving cardiovascular, muscular and flexibility.

The college level recreation and leadership course is a must for anyone who sees themselves in a leadership role. it includes public speaking and leading groups of people along with fitness knowledge. The university level exercise science course is a must for anyone who wants a career in health.
