FIRST Robotics - Team 6070

About FIRST and the FIRST Robotics Competition:
Founded by Dean Kamen, the inventor behind the notorious Segway, FIRST is a not-for-profit organization that empowers high school students interested in STEM, the arts, and business through their yearly robotics season and off season events, and other activities.
Starting every year in January until early May, the FIRST Robotics Competition is the premier event of FIRST, where teams have six weeks to design, build, and develop their robot. Regional events around the world take place in the months of March and April where teams compete in the season’s game.
Winners of regional/district competitions, as well as award recipients are invited to the FIRST World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, USA (and next year, Houston, Texas as well!) where they compete for first place and various other awards including the prestigious Chairman’s award. Off season, FIRST teams run their own off-season events and contribute to their community with conferences, workshops, and more.
About Team 6070 - Gryphon Machine
FIRST’s FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) Team 6070: Gryphon Machine, based in Glenforest Secondary School, consists of students Grades 9 through 12 from various academic streams including the International Baccalaureate, Regional Enhanced, and University and College Preparation programs. Founded in December of 2015, FRC 6070 is a team of students very passionate about Robotics and STEM, keen to be involved in their community, while further developing their technical, artistic, and business skills.
In their first season, FRC Stronghold, FRC 6070 designed and built the defensive robot, The Iron Curtain or more commonly known as by CBC Host, Rick Mercer, the Shovel Bot. Competing at the Greater Toronto East Regional event at Durham College, the team qualified for FIRST Championships in St. Louis, Missouri by receiving the Rookie All Star Award.
Team 6070 currently hosts a variety of off-season activities. This includes mentorships, such as the Nahani Way Public School Robotics/Coding Club in cooperation with Glenforest Computer Science Club and STEM Team. Currently, Team 6070 hosts weekly meetings Monday and Wednesday after school, where new team members are able to be trained by the previous year’s members and the team meets to work on various off-season projects, before the new FIRST Season begins in January.
