Dear Heart Lake and Conestoga Students & Families:

I'm writing with exciting news to share with you about improvements that are scheduled to be made to the sports field at Heart Lake Secondary School. Recently, the Peel District School Board entered into an agreement with Footy Sevens for the construction and operation of a revitalized sports field at Heart Lake Secondary School. Footy Sevens currently operates a number of soccer leagues in the Ottawa area using fields at both universities and privately owned facilities.

Starting soon, work will begin to install an artificial turf field, LED lighting, fencing and renovated bleachers on the sports field. LED lights (softer than halogen and incandescent lights) will be directed towards the field to minimize overflow lighting beyond the field. Footy Sevens is covering all of the costs associated with these improvements, including design, construction and maintenance-related costs. As part of this project, the Peel board will also direct funding to refurbish the existing walking/running track with a synthetic surface at Heart Lake Secondary School.

We expect the renovations to the Heart Lake track and field to begin in mid-April 2017, with an estimated completion date of August 2017. I want to assure you that the safety of students and staff is a top priority. We will reinforce the need for extra care and caution during the renovations. We will also do everything we can to reduce the disruption to our students and community, but we have to expect a certain amount of dust and noise during the construction. In the end, the wonderful, revitalized track and field will be well worth the temporary inconvenience.

As part of the agreement, Footy Sevens will have the opportunity to use the facility for their leagues and to rent the field out to community groups outside of regular school hours. Heart Lake school teams will also be able to use the revitalized field for training and games. Free use by not-for-profit community groups will be subject to availability. Footy Sevens will be responsible for fee-setting and facility bookings outside of school use.

The Peel board is looking forward to partnering with Footy Sevens to bring top-notch facilities and programming to our students and community. Please contact your school principal, if you have any questions about the field improvements. Thank you in advance for your patience and support.

Sincerely,

Jaspal Gill
