The Heart Lake experience for students includes a welcoming environment, a stimulating instructional program, and the joy and excitement of involvement in clubs and teams.
At Heart Lake, Character Counts ! Our school is a recognized leader in character education. A focus on character attributes in instruction, school activities, and how we organize the school contributes to our healthy climate for learning. Through Link Crew, our senior students welcome and mentor our grade 9s throughout their first year of secondary school.
Our instructional program also helps our students be the best that they can be. It includes a full OSSD course selection plus a Regional Enhanced offering for gifted students. We are expanding programming into Advanced Placement (AP) for capable students who may qualify for recognition of their Heart Lake accomplishments for university placement and/or credit.
Our investment in computer technology helps us to continue to grow in exciting subject areas such as business, media arts, computer science and communications technology, producing a school newspaper and year disk. Our students participate in practical programs in auto, design, and family studies.
Heart Lake students experience excellence inside and outside the classroom. Our award winning Art's Department has produced top notch concert and stage bands, as well as ensembles. Our music students travel and compete annually in locales such as Los Angeles, New York, and New Orleans. Drama and visual arts programming is comprehensive and rich, featuring full musical productions and exciting arts evenings.
Not to mention the school's full athletics program. Heart Lake offers more than 31 teams that compete at the Regional level in ROPSSAA. Heart Lake coaches help our athletes advance every year to compete at the OFSAA provincial level.
