GRADE 9

 

These courses emphasize regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement skills and principles, ways to improve personal fitness and physical competence, and safety and injury prevention. They will investigate issues related to healthy sexuality and the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and will participate in activities designed to develop goal-setting, communication, and social skills.

 

PPL 1OF   Grade 9 Female Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

PPL 1OM  Grade 9 Male Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

Typical activities could include archery, basketball, skating, dance, fitness, volleyball, tennis, floor hockey, ice skating, flag football, soccer, baseball and much more.

Prerequisite:  None

 


 

GRADE 10

 

These courses emphasize regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principles to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examination of issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse; and the use of informed decision-making, conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices.

 

PPL2OF  Grade 10 Female Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

PPL2OM Grade 10 Male Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

Typical activities could include volleyball, basketball, skating, strength training, lacrosse, badminton, tennis, squash, cricket, choukball,  track and field  and much more.

Prerequisite:   None

 

PAF2OF   Grade 10 Female Personal Fitness (Fitness Focus)

PAF2OM  Grade 10 Male Personal Fitness (Fitness Focus)

These courses run primarily in our strength training room and cardio/dance studio,  students design and follow a fitness program suited to their personal fitness goals.

Prerequisite:  None

 

PAD2O0 Grade 10 Outdoor Activities (Outdoor Focus)

This course includes an overnight camping trip and other activities like mountain biking, orienteering, low ropes, indoor rock climbing , in-line skating, and cross country skiing.

Prerequisite:  None

 

PAR2O0 Grade 10 Rhythm and Movement (Dance Focus)

Movement to music is the primary focus of this new course, students will learn a variety of dance styles and will choreograph and perform dances of their own design.

Prerequisite:  None

 

GRADE 11

 

These courses focus on the development of a healthy lifestyle and participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that have the potential to engage students’ interest throughout their lives. Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence in a variety of movement skills and will be given opportunities to practise goal-setting, decision-making, social, and interpersonal skills. Students will also study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental health, and personal safety.

 

PPL3OF   Grade 11 Female Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

PPL3OM  Grade 11 Male Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

Typical activities could include floorball, basketball, cross country skiing, lacrosse, fitness, tennis, squash, rugby, flag football,  baseball  and much more.

Prerequisite:  None

 

PAF3OF    Grade 11 Female Personal Fitness (Fitness Focus)

PAF3OM   Grade 11 Male Personal Fitness (Fitness Focus)

These courses run primarily in our strength training room and cardio/dance studio,  students design and follow a fitness program suited to their personal fitness goals.

Prerequisite:  None

 

PAD3O0 Grade 11 Outdoor Activities (Outdoor Focus)

This course includes a 3 day overnight camping trip; students will experience a variety of outdoor activities with numerous opportunities to expand their leadership skills.

Prerequisite:  None

 

PAR3O0  Grade 11 Rhythm and Movement (Dance Focus)

GRADE 12

 

These courses focus on the development of a personalized approach to healthy active living through participation in a variety of sports and recreational activities that have the potential to engage students’ interest throughout their lives. Students will develop and implement personal physical fitness plans. In addition, they will be given opportunities to refine their decision making, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills, with a view to enhancing their mental health and their relationships with others.

 

PPL4OF    Grade 12 Female Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

PPL4OM   Grade 12 Male Healthy Active Living (Sport Focus)

Typical activities could include tournament design and operation, leadership

opportunties with junior grades, fitness testing techniques, and a wide range of sports.

Prerequisite:  None

 

PAF4O0 Grade 12  Personal Fitness (Fitness Focus)

This course is offered in a co-educational format; students will refine their skills knowledge while working toward reaching their personal fitness goals.

Prerequisite:  None

 

PLF4M0  Grade 12 Recreation and Fitness Leadership (Leadership Focus)

This course focuses on the development of leadership and coordination skills related to recreational activities. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills required to plan, organize, and implement recreational events. They will also learn how to promote the value of physical fitness, personal well-being, and personal safety to others through mentoring. The course will prepare students for college programs in recreational, leisure, and fitness leadership.  This course is offered in a co-educational format.

Prerequisite:  Any Grade 11 or 12 Course in Health and Physical Education

 

PSK4UO Grade 12 Kinesiology (Academic/Science Focus)

This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.

Prerequisite:  Any Grade 11 University or University/College Course in Science or any Grade 11 or 12 Course in Health and Physical Education.  SBI 3U0 strongly recommended.
