MPM1D0  Grade 9 Academic

​Students will learn to:

  • use technology and abstract thinking to understand mathematical concepts
  • solve problems involving the area and perimeter of two dimensional shapes
  • solve problems involving the surface area and volume of three dimensional figures
  • determine through investigation the properties of two dimensional shapes as it relates to angles and parallel lines
  • determine the properties of the equations of lines and how they relate to their graphs
  • simplify expressions involving fractions and the exponent rules for multiplication and division
  • solve equations with one variable

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to complete Grade 10 Academic (MPM 2D)

Prerequisite:  None

 

 

MFM1P0 Grade 9 Applied

Students will learn to:

  • use technology and concrete materials to understand the concepts
  • compare quantities and use reasoning to find the best buy
  • calculate the perimeter, area and volume of two and three dimensional shapes
  • draw and read graphs to describe and answer questions about relationships
  • solve simple equations with one variable

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to complete Grade 10 Applied (MFM2P), Grade 10 LDCC (MAT2L), Grade 11 Work and Everyday Life (MEL3E)

Prerequisite:  None

 

 

MAT1L0   Grade 9 Locally Developed

Students will learn to:

  • use decimals as they estimate cost, calculate change and taxes when shopping and creating budgets
  • estimate and measure lengths, perimeter, area and volume using metric and imperial units for their height, recipes, items in a room
  • determine the best buy when shopping, draw scale diagrams and change recipes using fractions, percentages, ratios and rates 

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to complete Grade 10 LDCC (MAT2L) or Grade 11 Work and Everyday Life (MEL3E).

Prerequisite:  None

 


 

GRADE 10

 

MPM2D0  Grade 10 Academic

Students will learn to:

  • use their knowledge of linear relationships from grade 9 to study systems of linear relationships while revisiting slopes and rates of change
  • solve problems involving real-life situations involving geometry of lines and circles
  • solve problems involving real-life situations involving parabolas and quadratic relationships
  • solve quadratic equations, which are slightly more complicated than the linear equations from grade 9
  • simplify polynomial expressions using algebra, exponent laws and factoring
  • use basic trigonometric ratios to solve problems involving side lengths and angles within a triangle
  • use the Sine and Cosine Laws to solve problems involving angles and triangles

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to complete Grade 11 University (MCR3U)

Prerequisite:  MPM1D0

 

 

 

MFM2P0  Grade 10 Applied

Students will learn to:

  • Improve their understanding of linear relations and problem solving skills involving algebra, by using technology and various hands on activities
  • Graph equations in geometry; solve and apply linear systems using real-life examples; interpret graphs of quadratic relations, the trigonometry of right triangles, and the measurement of three-dimensional figures

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to enter Grade 11, College (MBF3C) or Grade 11, University/College Preparation (MCF3M)

Prerequisite:  MPM1D0 or MFM1P0

 

 

MAT2L0  Grade 10 Locally Developed

Students will learn to:

  • calculate wages based on an hourly rate and write cheques
  • read temperature, calculate time when moving across time zones and continue extending their knowledge of perimeter, area and volume to solve everyday problems
  • determine total cost as they consider discounts and incentives when shopping

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to complete Grade 11 Work and Everyday Life (MEL3E)

Prerequisite:  MAT 1L0

 

GRADE 11

 

MCR3U0  Grade 11 University

Students will learn to:

  • explore the properties of some basic functions and apply transformations to those functions.
  • simplify rational expressions.
  • solve problems involving quadratic functions and exponential functions.
  • solve real life problems by using trigonometric ratios and functions.
  • solve problems using sequences and patterns.

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to complete Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U) and/or Data Management (MDM4U)  university programs in Science, Medical, Technology, Accounting, and Engineering etc.

Prerequisite:  MPM2D0


 

 

MCF3M0  Grade 11 University/College

Students will learn to:

  • Explore the basic features of non-linear functions such as quadratic, exponential and trigonometric
  • Solve problems involving real-life situations involving quadratics where gravity, distance or time are involved
  • Solve problems involving real-life situations where exponential growth and decay occur  including financial situations involving financing a car or house
  • Solve problems involving real-life situations where trigonometry is used to explore triangles as well as situations involving cyclical patterns such as riding a Ferris wheel
  • Simplify expressions using algebra
  • Solve equations

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning on taking Grade 12 Data Management (MDM4U), Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology (MCT4C) or Grade 12 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C)
  • students planning on taking Grade 11 Functions (MCR3U0) which allows them to take Grade 12 Advanced Functions (MHF 4U0) followed by Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U0) 

Prerequisite:  MPM2D0 or MFM2P0

 

 

MBF3C Grade 11 College

Students will learn to:

  • learn various ways of representing and solving quadratic and exponential relations
  • solve financial problems  involving credit cards, simple and compound interest and compare various costs associated with owning or leasing a car.
  • solve design related problems of two dimensional and three dimensional figures
  • solve problems involving trigonometry, analyze various types of data to learn the concept of probability

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to enrol in Grade 12 Foundations of College Mathematics (MAP4C)

Prerequisite:  MFM 2P0


 

 

MEL3E0 Grade 11 Workplace

 

Students will learn to:

  • solve problems related to earning money, paying taxes and making purchases
  • investigate investment options (ie. simple and compound interest) and bank accounts
  • create a budget to include essential and non-essential expenses
  • calculate the cost of transportation and travel in various situations

This course is ideal for:

  • students who need their last credit in math that do not need a university level or college level mathematics course

Prerequisite:  MPM1D0, MFM1P0 or MAT2L0

 


 

GRADE 12

 

MCV4U0  Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors

Students will learn to:

  • determine the rate of change for a variety of functions that can be applied to many real life situations
  • solve problems involving geometric and algebraic representations of vectors
  • represent lines and planes in a three dimensional space

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to enter university programs in science, engineering, economics and some areas of business or who are required to take a course on calculus, linear algebra or physics in first year university

Prerequisite:  MHF4U0 or be currently enrolled in MHF4U0

 

 

MHF4U                 Grade 12 Advanced Functions

Students will:

  • deepen their understanding of functions by revisiting the exponential and trigonometric functions introduced in Grade 11 to address related concepts such as radian measure, trigonometric identities and equations, and logarithmic functions
  • extend prior knowledge of quadratic functions to explore polynomial and rational functions
  • determine and interpret rates of change of functions and use graphical and algebraic ideas to analyze different types of functions
  • develop techniques for combining functions
  • learn to reason mathematically and communicate thinking clearly through the solving of multi-step problems.

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to attend a university program in areas that include business, social science, computer science, engineering and health science programs

Prerequisite:  MCR3U0

 

 

MDM4U0   Grade 12 Data Management

Students will learn to:

  • present data in useful and effective ways in order for others to draw conclusions and make predictions about the data
  • use permutations and combinations in order to determine the number of arrangements of a given number of objects
  • calculate the probability of various real-life situations (e.g. determine the probability of selecting a face card from a regular deck of cards)
  • determine if two variables have any effect on each other through investigations

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to enter university programs in business, the social sciences and the humanities

Prerequisite:  MCR3U0 or MCF3M0

 

 

MAP4C0 Grade 12 Foundations for College Mathematics

Students will learn to:

  • analyse data using technology such as graphing calculators and software
  • solve problems involving real-life situations involving geometry and trigonometry (inaccessible heights)
  • solve financial problems connected with budgets, leasing or financing a car, renting or owning a place to live
  • simplify expressions using algebra
  • solve equations

This course is ideal for:

  • students planning to enter college programs in business, health sciences, human services and certain skilled trades

Prerequisite:  MBF3C0 or MCF3M0

 

 

MEL4E0  Grade 12 Workplace

Students will learn to:

  • apply their understanding of mathematics as needed in the workplace and daily life.
  • investigate questions involving the use of statistics and apply the concept of probability
  • calculate accommodation costs, create household budgets, and prepare a personal income tax
  • return and apply geometric concepts to create designs.

This course is ideal for:

  • ​Students entering the workplace and/or requires a third  math credit to meet OSSD requirements.
