Crime Stoppers: Crime Stoppers is an effective means of crime deterrence. Students who witness a theft or a crime of any nature are asked to call 1-800-222-TIPS to provide information anonymously. Police officers follow up on the report and the person responsible is apprehended.

Fire drills:
Whenever the fire alarm sounds, students must leave the building immediately, in a safe, calm manner.
· If in class, leave the building as directed by your teacher.
· If in a study or lunch period, leave the building immediately by the nearest exit.
· Move well away from the building as directed by school staff.
· Do not re-enter the building until directed to do so by school staff.
A pulled false alarm is a serious offence. It takes firefighters away from deployment to a real emergency and disrupts our school community. Any incident will be fully investigated and the person(s) responsible will be charged, fined and suspended from school.
Lockdown procedure:
A lockdown is defined by the Peel Regional Police as the restriction of movement during the time of a potentially serious violent incident. During a lockdown, exercise critical judgement to maximize safety.
1. The Principal or Designate will:
A. Announce on the P.A. to "Initiate Lockdown Procedure"
B. Bell will ring repeatedly and lights will flash in cafeteria and gyms.
If students and staff are inside the school:
· Go to the closest room, close the door and lock if possible
· Lie on the floor away from doors and windows
· Remain on the floor until further directions are given
If students and staff are outside the school: |
· All students and staff outside of the building are to move as far away from the building as possible and remain outside until further directions are given
· Administration may direct staff and students to move to the school evacuation site unless otherwise directed. |
There are two other terms used for securing a school:
-The term Hold and Secure will be used when there is a safety concern outside and not related to the school. Exterior doors are locked and no one may enter or exit the school.
-The term Shelter in Place is used for environment or weather-related situations where it is necessary to keep everyone within school.
Posters:
No posters may be posted in the school without being initialled by a Vice-Principal or Principal. Please strive for quality, not quantity. No commercial advertising is permitted in schools in accordance with Board Policy.
Security:
Each exit door and the Atrium area at John Fraser Secondary School is equipped with a camera which records the entry and exit of all individuals. The Board objectives for cameras in our schools include:
· To enhance the safety of students and staff
· To protect Board property against theft and vandalism
· To assist in the identification of intruders and of persons endangering the health, well-being and safety of school and community members
The school also has a complete security system which is set once academic and custodial staff leave the premises. Again, the primary function of this system is for risk management and loss prevention. Posted notices at each exit indicate to visitors that they are being videotaped on entry.
"Electronic devices cannot be properly secured at school. They are also a distraction to others. Electronic devices should not be brought to school. The school will not be responsible for the theft/loss of or damage to any personal items."
Traffic Safety:
Please note that students should not congregate or remain on the island in the middle of Erin Centre Blvd. Students should cross Erin Centre Blvd. at the lights. This area of concern is being addressed by the administration, Mississauga Traffic Safety, and Mississauga Counsellors.
Parents are asked not to stop on Erin Centre Blvd. to drop off or pick up their children. Consider using the parking lot across the street, or use the "Drop-Off" lane in front of the school. Dropping off a few minutes earlier in the morning will help you avoid a traffic jam and will ensure your student arrives for class on time.
