DECA is an international association whose main objective is to improve education and career opportunities for high school students pursuing a study or interest in business. Students participate as competitors as they develop marketing and management skills in career areas such as hospitality, finance, sales and service, business administration and entrepreneurship.
Numerous programs and activities are available for students with specific career interests to improve technical skills, basic scholastic and communication skills, human relations and employability skills, with a strong emphasis on economics and free enterprise. By giving students hands-on experiences in the fields of business, marketing, and entrepreneurship, DECA enhances classroom learning by providing conferences, publications, and competitive events that develop high school students into character-driven leaders.
John Fraser DECA elects an executive team annually consisting of students, and business studies teachers serve as the school chapter advisors. All students are encouraged to join DECA and no requisite skills are necessary. DECA chapters are self-supportive, with members paying regional, provincial and international membership fees. Sponsorships and fund raising activities may assist with these fees.
