What is Science Senior Scholars?
The program's primary goals are to assess and identify the obstacles that prevent students from being successful in the school's various science courses and to provide individual assistance to those who enroll. Through personal evaluation and private tutoring sessions, Science Senior Scholars aim to help students reinforce their scientific foundations and sharpen their skills.
Who is Eligible?
Students in any grade that are having long-term difficulty with the concepts covered in the school's science courses would benefit from this program. Students who wish to apply as volunteer scholars should be able to meet with students on a regular basis throughout the semester without cancellation.
Who is Involved?
After application, an initial meeting will take place between the student and Mr. Stewart, who will identify the student's needs and designate a volunteer tutor. The majority of the scholars enlisted are senior members of the school's student body and excel in science-related classes. Students that join Science Senior Scholars as volunteer tutors have the chance to accumulate their mandatory 40 hours of community service. If the hours are already completed, scholars will receive activity points that will go toward achieving several school accomplishment awards.
Schedules are discussed between students and scholars. Scholars are generally available about 2-3 times a week.
