Our Mission

Our mission describes our school's purpose. Our vision depicts our desired future. The principles needed to achieve our mission and vision are articulated in our values. Finally, the actions we need to demonstrate to make our mission, vision and values a reality are described in our collective commitments.

We have developed these statements in collaboration with our staff, students and families. They are part of our School Success Plan.


The mission of the Mayfield learning community is: *to enable our students to reach their potential and to become confident, resilient, responsible, successful and well-rounded citizens. *to provide a positive, safe, caring and respectful environment in which students focus on character, academics, arts and athletics.


The Mayfield learning community will continue to provide a safe and supportive environment that promotes the dignity of all its members. Mayfield students are empowered to become independent learners who are responsible for their own success. Staff and students will continue to work together in academic, artistic and athletic programs that enrich the lives of our community as a whole. Mayfield will also be a commnity leader providing students opportunities to graduate as confident, creative and skilled young adults.

  • Fostering excellence and high standards in life-long learning
  • Encouraging a balance bewteen academics and extra-curricular opportunities for students
  • Promoting professional development and a collaborative working community for all stakeholders
  • Creating opportunities/activities that promote and support improved student attitudes and behaviours - Grad Legacy, respect for school environment
  • Knowing ,considering and responding to factors affecting the well-being of students and colleagues, developing improved links to community resources

Student Commitments

  • Supporting and promoting students with diverse learning needs
  • Respecting equity and Human Rights - racism, religion, sexual orientation
  • Modelling attitudes and behaviour that contribute to a safe and respecful learning and working environment for all stakeholders.

Parent Commitments

  • Learn more about backwards planning for course selection and promote that option with the parent community.
  • Support alternative methods of maintaining contact with the parent community.
  • Support school success initiatives, specifically, but limited to, the school year calendar and code of conduct.
