Dear Meadowvale Families,
As you are likely aware, recent changes to public education in Ontario have increased secondary class sizes for the coming school year. As a result, secondary schools across the Peel District School Board need to create their timetables for 2019-20 with these changes. This means that some of the courses your teen chose during the course selection process earlier this school year may not be offered next year and they will be required to select other options.
At this time, our focus is on offering courses for students that they require to graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Ontario Secondary School Certificate. Like many schools, we may no longer be in a position to offer students credits beyond those that are required.
At Meadowvale Secondary School students who require course changes will be contacted by school guidance counsellors to help determine changes that may be needed. Students have been provided with course verification sheets and we encourage you to review this with your child to ensure courses selected are accurate. We will continue to work through a process of meeting with students affected to ensure their timetables are complete as we continue to build the school timetable between now and the end of June. Should you have concerns or wish to provide input about your student's course selections please feel free to contact your student's Guidance counsellor at the school.
Also, please note, in some cases Grade 12 course offerings may be limited. A reminder that, as always, the option for students to enroll in a summer school course in order to ensure they are able to access all pre-requisite courses for their desired post-secondary pathway is also available to students if desired. Please see your Guidance counsellor to assist you with this option.
We understand that this may cause uncertainty for some students and families. Guidance counsellors will do their best to support students, but may not be able to meet as promptly with students one-on-one or there may be delays in responding to voicemail/email.
If the Ministry of Education provides additional funding for secondary program, we will revisit the number of sections of courses available to students. Thank you for your understanding as we work to find ways to offer a variety of pathway courses to support the success and well-being of all students. As always, please contact a school administrator if you have questions or concerns.
