The Meadowvale Secondary School Media Arts program is designed to give students access to the knowledge and skills needed to become members of the digital design and technology industries. Students learn to deconstruct and analyze visual imagery while building technical skills in photography, digital editing, digital drawing, traditional animation, computer animation and film. This program helps to develop the creative process and considers both the student that wants to further develop their computer knowledge and skills in the area of creativity or those that wish to pursue a career in the digital media or technology field.
The Grade 10 media arts course is an open level introduction to computer graphics. The program introduces students to new programs and ways to develop their artistic skills. It is a beginner’s course for students to deconstruct and learn to analyze visual imagery while building technical skills in photography, digital editing, digital drawing, traditional animation, computer animation and film. This program emphasizes the creative process and helps students to experiment with their ideas, reflect on them and justify them for a specific audience.
The Grade 11 media art course is an M level course that continues learned skills from the grade 10 course. Traditional art is explored and re-examined through a digital media. Students continue to develop their skills with programs while learning about traditional photography, new digital photography using DSLR’s, Photoshop, Film and animation and 3D modeling. The history of animation is examined along with some modern art history and the effects on the world around them. Students utilize up to date technology in a Mac lab that is equipped with a full business sized colour printer.
The Grade 12 media art course is an M level course that is a culmination of learning skills where students still continue to build on their learning but continue with learned skills. Art history and modern artists are studied ie; Banksy, photo manipulation is practiced and students learn about the various possible careers in art and digital art. The use of the 3D printer is examined and explored with a real hands on experience in class. Students utilize up to date technology in a Mac lab that is equipped with a full business sized colour printer.
