In addition to the aesthetic experience for every musician, participation in music also helps the development of positive life-skills such as self discipline, cooperation, communication, adaptation, and more.

 

Everyone benefits from the study of music.

 

At North Park we offer Instrumental, Repertoire, Keyboard, Guitar and Composition courses in Music. 

 

Instrumental Music: Open and University/College Level 

 

Grade 9 Instrumental Music, AMU1O1, is an introductory level course for beginner musicians wanting to learn a concert band instrument: woodwind, brass or percussion, not including piano or guitar. Students who enjoy this course would also benefit from taking the accompanying Repertoire class, AMR1O1, as an extra ninth credit.

 

Grade 9 Experienced Instrumental Music, AMU1O2, is for musicians with previous experience on a concert band instrument: woodwind, brass or percussion, not including piano or guitar. A course fee is required.  Students who enjoy this course would also benefit from taking the accompanying Repertoire class AMR1O2 as an extra ninth credit.

 

Grade 10 Instrumental Music, AMU2O0, is intended for musicians who have successfully completed previous music classes or have previous instrumental experience. As with the Grade 9 classes this course does not include piano or guitar, and students would benefit from taking the accompanying Repertoire class as a ninth credit.

 

Grade 11 Instrumental Music, AMU3MO, is for musicians who have successfully completed a Grade 9 or 10 Instrumental Music course. As with the Grade 9/10 classes this course does not include piano or guitar, and students would benefit from taking the accompanying Repertoire class as a ninth credit.

  

Grade 12 Instrumental Music, AMU4MO, is for musicians who have successfully completed Grade 11 Instrumental Music. As with all other instrumental music courses, this course does not include piano or guitar, and students would benefit from taking the accompanying Repertoire class as a ninth credit.


Repertoire: Open and University/College Level 

 

The repertoire courses are offered in Grades 9-12 and accompany the Instrumental Music sections. Student have the opportunity to practice as a band and perform at various concerts and festivals throughout the school year.


Keyboard: Open and University/College Level

 

Piano keyboard is offered in Grades 9, 10 and 11. Grade 9 is intended for beginners with the Grade 10 and 11 courses following a progression through intermediate and advanced piano keyboard playing.

 

Guitar: Open Level

 

For students who have their own guitar and would like both dedicated time and coruse credit for improving their play, Grade 11 Beginner Guitar, AMG3O0, is for you.

 

Composition: University/College Level

 

Grade 12 Composition, AMM4M0, is open to any student who has completed a Grade 11 Music course. Studentsl learn to compose, arrange, edit, create and record music using popular music software.
