Our Mission

Our mission describes our school's purpose. Our vision depicts our desired future. The principles needed to achieve our mission and vision are articulated in our values. Finally, the actions we need to demonstrate to make our mission, vision and values a reality are described in our collective commitments.

We have developed these statements in collaboration with our staff, students and families. They are part of our School Success Plan.

Mission

In Alternative Programs, we provide learning opportunities and settings for students in Grades 7 to 12 who require an alternative environment. Alternative Programs facilitate the academic, social and emotional development of each student. We provide a safe, caring environment which fosters respect, responsibility, individuality, diversity and creativity. We teach students the skills required to be successful in school, as life-long learners and contributing members of the community.

Vision

Our vision is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment to engage and empower students through student-centered learning, to discover and pursue their interests and navigate their lives with competency and resiliency.

Values

  • To fulfill our mission and vision, we value and promote:

Collective Commitments

Staff Commitments

  • Open and consistent communication and collaboration among staff, students, parents and the community.
  • Respecting and responding to the individual needs and learning styles of students through flexible program design, and differentiated instruction.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to ensure our staff is best able to meet the diverse needs of our students.
  • Creating equitable and balanced expectations that promote student learning and high achievement.
  • Providing academic, life and pathway counselling in order to facilitate planning for student success.

Student Commitments

  • Attending class on a regular basis on time, and ready to engage in learning.
  • Being aware of the supports available when I need to seek assistance with academic and social-emotional concerns.
  • To develop an awareness of my learning style and preferences to inform my academic and pathway planning to meet my personal goals.

Parent Commitments

  • Providing a supportive environment to promote regular attendance.
  • Parents are engaging in the student's learning and aware of the student's learning needs and strengths.
  • Parents are accessing school resources (teachers, guidance counselor, social workers, and CYWs) and community resources to support student learning.

In our programs we will provide individual educational opportunities in a variety of settings. Our small, flexible and positive environments support a diverse group of students in the development of life-long learning skills as they prepare for a successful future. Our staff models life-long learning, has expertise in differentiated instruction, and works cooperatively with parents and the community to support student learning.
