Dear Stephen Lewis Secondary School Families,
I want to make you aware of a situation that affected our school today. This morning, we were made aware of a potential threat that was made against the school. We took this matter very seriously and immediately contacted Peel Regional Police. At approximately 11:35 a.m., police directed our school into hold and secure as a precautionary measure while they investigated.
Students and staff were safe at all times. As part of our hold and secure protocol, doors were locked so no one could enter or exit the building. School activities and classes continued inside the school as usual.
Police lifted the hold and secure at approximately 12:10 p.m. Police have informed us that the threat is not credible and that it is safe to continue with our regular school routines. They have assured that there is no risk to student or staff safety and they have not asked us to take any additional precautionary measures.
As you know, the safety of students and staff is always our top priority. We take situations like this very seriously and will always take direction from police to keep students safe.
As always, please call me at the school if you have questions or concerns.
