Power restored at school and surrounding areas

Earlier this morning, Alectra Utilities was reporting a power outage at our school and surrounding areas in the community, leaving classrooms and all offices without power. This means that our phone lines were also not working. We continued our regular routines in the school as much as possible using natural light and the school's emergency light system.  The power was restored back at the school at 9 a.m.

This may have affected the following schools: Cherrytree P.S., Fletcher's Creek Sr. P.S., Hickory Wood P.S., Ray Lawson P.S., Turner Fenton S.S. and Adult Education Centre North

Use of personal devices in Peel District School Board schools

On Nov. 4, 2019, the Ministry of Education introduced a restriction on the use of personal mobile devices, such as cellphones, in the classroom. It's being referred to as a "cellphone ban" in the media, however, the ministry's direction does allow personal devices to be used for instructional purposes, as directed by an educator. Exceptions are also made if cellphones are required for health or medical purposes, to support special education needs. This direction aligns with the Peel District School Board's current practice and, as such, there is no change to the use of technology in Peel schools.
