     The Woodlands Prefects

Prefects are a group of students who act as Ambassadors for the school at school events within both the school and local community. An integral part of their mandate as student ambassadors is to create awareness and co-ordinate school wide events for social justice issues both locally and globally. Our campaigns run throughout the school year and try outs for students in Grades 9 through 12 are in May, with interviews in September for new Grade 9 students. Last year we raised over $18,000 for a variety of causes!

The Woodlands Prefects is a 37 member student-run organization dedicated towards performing and promoting volunteer services, which include charitable fundraising and spreading awareness regarding issues that affect our world. Through encouragement and by creating opportunities, this group helps fellow students and members of the school community, increase their compassion towards several charities and causes.

Last year the Prefects worked toward building a school in Sierre Leone. Students worked tirelessly with The Free the Children foundation to raise awareness regarding the inequalities that exist between children in the developed and developing world.  Prefects also collected food and toys for our annual Christmas Drive and coordinated the Terry Fox Run.

Every year the Prefects raise almost $10,000 for charities at a local and global level. For the year 2013-2014, the Prefects raised $18,000. These funds are then  directly infused in communities to help end poverty, help fund research for cancer or provide nets to stop the spread of malaria.

They devote their time inside and outside of school hours to support school events by performing duties at School Information Nights, Parent-Teacher Interview Nights, Commencement, and other school-wide events. The Prefects embody the spirit of compassion and the importance of action.
