Statement from Chair of the Board regarding the Ministry Reviewers’ Interim Report

​​On Nov. 7, 2019, Minister of Education Stephen Lecce announced a review of the Peel District School Board to provide observations and recommendations related to issues of human rights, equity, and racism, specifically anti-Black racism, human resources practices, leadership and issues of governance and trustee conduct. Three independent reviewers have led the review process since then, and provided the Minister of Education with an Interim Report in December 2019. On Jan. 27, 2020, the Minister's office released a statement and the Interim Report. ​​

​​Statement from Chair of the Board Brad MacDonald:

We remain committed to working with the Ministry of Education's reviewers and are thankful that so many have come forward to share their experiences during this process. We recognize that the voices of students, staff, families and community members are important in helping us to eliminate anti-Black racism, and dismantle systemic barriers to academic success and well-being that exist within our system.

We know that there is much work to do to build, repair and restore trust with the communities we serve. This process will help us become more transparent, responsive and accountable, and assist us in upholding the principles of equity, inclusion and human rights that our communities have every right to demand from us.

We share the community's desire to have this review lead to transformative approaches and good governance to addressing gaps in both the educational and employment outcomes at the Peel District School Board, in particular for Black and racialized students and staff. We look forward to the reviewers' final report and recommendations, and are committed to taking immediate action to ensure that all Peel board learning and working environments are places where everyone feels included, safe and respected.
