Peel board shares online resources for students with special education needs

Peel board shares online resources for students with special education needs

Earlier this week, we shared a working list of online supplemental learning resources to help mitigate learning loss during the COVID-19 shutdown, and to support students and families who wish to engage in independent, self-directed learning. We understand that these resources may not be suitable for all learning styles, particularly for some students with special education needs. That's why our Special Education department has launched a separate webpage of resources specifically for these students and their families.

Our Special Education online learning resources can be found on our Help Your Child webpage. There you'll find a wide range of optional resources, activities and tutorials catered to various abilities, learning styles and grade levels. We understand that these resources can't replace in-person support and learning in the classroom, but hope that you find them helpful during the school closures. We will continue to add to this webpage as new information and resources become available.

As previously mentioned, Peel board staff are currently working on a plan to re-establish the delivery of curriculum that meets the needs of every learner. When that plan is finalized, which we expect will be shortly, it will be shared with the community. The plan will outline the many ways administrators, educators, teaching assistants, social workers, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, and other support staff will be working to support student learning and to help them work towards the goals outlined in their IEP for the duration of the closure.
