School Council

Our school council—focused on student success

Every Peel school has a school council—a group focused on helping students succeed. The council advises the principal about important issues:

  • promoting effective communication between the school and parents
  • supporting our School Success planning goals
  • school code of behaviour
  • encouraging parent and community involvement in our school
  • promoting positive attitudes towards public education
  • school and board policies, guidelines and initiatives that affect student achievement or board accountability to parents

The membership of our council includes:

  • parents—who form the majority of council members
  • teaching and support staff representatives
  • community members

Our school council chair is:

Kristie Marinic, [email protected]

For more information about school council, contact the office or visit the School Councils section of the Peel board website.

Why Join the School Council

As parents we play an important and vital role in our child’s education.  From their very first day of kindergarten to high school graduation our input is important.  Whether it is encouraging our children to do their very best every day to helping them with their homework; being involved at the school is also an important part of their education.  It shows our children we care about their school environment – where they spend most of their time.

As parents on the Council we are the “voice” of the other parents in the school community.  It’s not just about planning Fundraisers and events – it’s also about bringing forth the concerns of the parents to the school.

Everyone is welcome to join the Council and attend any of the meetings.  To keep our Council going and have fresh ideas it is important for parents to be involved.  Being part of the Council isn’t a large commitment.  We have a meeting every two months and hold events a few times a year.  Any contribution is appreciated!

Why does Ellengale have a school council?

School councils play an important role in student success.  They encourage a strong partnership between the school and the family and help parents become actively involved in the education of their children.  School councils help good schools become better!
