We would like to welcome you to the Alton T.P.T.A. of Alton Public School. For parents and students who are new to Alton, here is a brief outline of the history and function of the T.P.T.A.
In the 1980’s, when enrollment had dropped to thirty students, there was pressure to close the school. The community of Alton came together to “save the school” and stop any closure. At that time 90% of the adult population of Alton joined the parents and teachers of Alton School to form the T.P.T.A. (Taxpayer, Parent, and Teacher Association). This community-school based organization continues to provide assistance to the students, teachers and principal with the goal of quality local education always in mind.
The main function of the TPTA is to raise money for school items not provided for within the regular school budget. Typical items provided have included Kindergarten Kits, double map for the Library, gym equipment, projector screen, soccer nets, globe, Silverbirch Books, Triple hoop, Sweet Adeline’s, and many other and varied items. The TPTA is also proud to subsidize bus trips, the cost of school planners, and provide the funds for the annual Friendship Skate.
Hotdog and pizza lunches, along with the popcorn program, are coordinated by the group’s active and apparently tireless volunteers. We host an annual Santa Shoppe in early December providing children the chance to do their own Christmas shopping for their families, and we culminate each year with our Spring Fling.
We are looking forward to another fun filled year and would love to have you join the team. If you would like to participate in the TPTA and its activities, please feel free to come out to any of our meetings or contact us at your convenience.
