Update regarding elementary online and in-person enrolments

Families recently had the opportunity to switch learning models from in-person/adaptive learning to online, and vice-versa, by contacting their school before Oct. 14 at noon. Now that this deadline has passed, we have a better understanding of the new enrolments and current needs of our school system.

Halloween Reminders

Halloween Reminders

I just wanted to take a few minutes to talk about how we will celebrate Halloween at our school.

This year, we will have a spirit day for both our online and our in person students.  Children are being encouraged to wear seasonal colours like black, orange, and white.

We must all continue to be mindful of pandemic health and safety guidelines.  Students may wear a costume to school if they wish but must meet the following requirements:

  • wear PPE masks and face-coverings to prevent the spread of Covid-19
  • no full face masks
  • no make-up
  • students must be able to self-dress as staff cannot help with dressing/undressing costumes
  • no candy or food brought in for sharing

There will be no parade this year and parents are not allowed in the school to view the students.

As we approach Halloween, it is important to think about how we can make this day align with our commitments to anti-racism and anti-oppression.   We want each of us—and our students—to reflect on our school values.   The character attributes of inclusion, respect and responsibility must be part of the process in making decisions about appropriate costumes or other spirit wear.

As a reminder at our school we do not allow
  • accessories (like weapons, capes)
  • costumes that depict the traditional attire of an ethnic racial or marginalized group, no dressing in a gender other than your own.  All costumes must be respectful, including no Co-vid related costumes

Any participation in Halloween activities by students or staff is completely voluntary which allows for full inclusion of those who wish to participate as well as those who do not. There is no preferred option, there is only the choice to do whatever makes one most comfortable.

Screen your child(ren) daily to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

We all have a role to play to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The most important thing families can do to help limit the transmission of COVID-19, is to screen your children daily using this self-assessment tool for any COVID-19 symptoms and keep them home from school if they are sick or have had close contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19.
