Participation Component


 

Interviews and Auditions will be conducted virtually between November 30, 2020 - December 4, 2020.  

 

All students will receive an email confirmation from the Central Peel Strings Department that will give further instructions on how to attend the interview component and where to upload the performance videos (for Experienced and Advanced players only.)

 

BEGINNING STRINGS

(all students who do not have previous strings experience.)


 Interview Only

  • Prior musical experience
  • Interests
  • Listening Test

 

EXPERIENCED STRINGS


 1. Interview

  • Prior musical experience
  • Interests 
  • Listening Test
  • Short Sight-Reading Excerpt

 2. Performance Video Submission

*Pieces for audition solos are at the discretion of the student, or student's school or private music teacher. Orchestra or ensemble music is not appropriate for this audition.

Prepared Solo

  • A well-prepared solo that best demonstrates the student's level of proficiency
  • The solo should last 2 to 3 minutes

The following resources are suggested:

  • Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) graded repertoire books 1 and higher
  • Suzuki Method books 1 and higher

Technical Skills

  • A one-octave scale, ascending and descending, with your choice of bowing
  • An arpeggio in the same key, ascending and descending, with your choice of bowing

 

ADVANCED STRINGS

 

1. Interview

  • Prior musical experience
  • Interests 
  • Listening TesT
  • Short Sight-Reading Excerpt

2. Performance Video Submission

*Pieces for audition solos are at the discretion of the student, or student's school or private music teacher. Orchestra or ensemble music is not appropriate for this audition.
 
Prepared Solos

  • A well-prepared solo at a slow tempo that best demonstrates the student's level of Proficiency.
  • A well-prepared solo at a fast tempo that best demonstrates the student's level of proficiency.

  • Suzuki Method books

Technical Skills

  • A two or three octave scale, ascending and descending, with your choice of bowing
  • A two or three octave arpeggio in the same key, ascending and descending, with your choice of bowing
