Dear Chinguacousy Secondary School staff and families,
I’m writing to inform you that Peel Public Health is currently investigating two COVID-19 exposures at our school.
Peel Public Health has informed us someone who was recently at school has tested positive for COVID-19. As a precaution, Peel Public Health has directed individuals from one of our classrooms to self-isolate at home. The classroom will be closed until the individuals have completed their self-isolation period.
The other individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is someone who was recently on one of the private, non-Peel board buses. As a precaution, Peel Public Health has directed individuals who were on this private, non-Peel board bus to self-isolate at home. Peel Public Health is investigating and will contact anyone determined to be a close contact.
Impacted staff and students for both cases have already been contacted with further direction and will be supported remotely until the end of their self-isolation period.
Staff and students who have not been contacted by Peel Public Health should continue to attend school as usual. You do not need to get tested unless you are symptomatic or asked to do so by Peel Public Health.
Our building is also currently safe and will remain open for students and staff. The school undergoes a thorough cleaning and sanitizing daily as part of our enhanced cleaning protocol. In addition, our physical distancing and mask rules are designed to help prevent spread and lower risk. Peel Public Health will let us know if any other measures need to be taken to reduce the risk of transmission.
The identity of the persons is protected under privacy legislation and cannot be shared. I know this may frustrate you, but you would want this privacy if it was someone in your family. Everyone deserves the same protection.
Keeping you informed is part of our commitment to you. You can find information about that commitment on the Peel board web site. Please visit Peel Public Health’s web site for information on how they are working with the Peel board to help keep staff and students safe at school.
I know that news of COVID-19 can create feelings of anxiousness, so I wanted to make sure you had this information as soon as possible to help ease concerns.
Now more than ever, we must take care of ourselves and each other. We can do this by following the advice of public health agencies and government officials. Please review their advice on how you can protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
