Meeting Minutes

March 21, 2018



In attendance:  Angela Norris-Siemens, Sandra Forsyth, Mary Zammit, Brian Hudson, Debbie Foss, Anne-Marie May, May Wong, Kathy Geczi


Student Council Report – Esther Chung, International Rep


Valentine's Event – decorated cafeteria, Peter Joshua, Director of Ed visited, great donut sales

Semi Formal upcoming – Mar 29, Mississauga Convention Centre, Starry Night theme, $40 per ticket.


Spirit Week – March Madness/Healthy Active Living – week of Mar 26.  PJ day, Jersey Day, Grade Specific Clothing, Wii Mario in Caf, Throwback Thursday, Smoothies.


Cancer Drive - April – SAC kick off and carnival, bbq, games.


Other clubs – Mural club, anime club


Principal's Report


Visit from the Director of Ed - students proud to share about their school.


Mr Akawa  (physics)– retires next week, hiring LTO, new teacher should be able to spend a few days with him


PD for staff:  PDSB focus is on indigenous education, understanding Truth and Reconciliation meeting.  Last staff meeting and this Friday early release will help staff deepen understanding.

Next year Native Studies course will be offered.


Transition to CSS – Trying to get younger neighbourhood students to connect with CSS.  Grade sevens from English and French feeder schools are invited to Cancer Drive Kickoff.  Grade six will come for Adventures in Science.  Grade six FI will come for French Immersion Day.  Grade fours and fives came for Triple Ball tournament.


Football field is to be ready for September.  PDSB and City of Mississauga are funding it jointly.


Treasurer's Report


Bake Sale today raised$172, total account is $362, if we can take it up to $400, $200 each for scholarship.


Scholarship criteria – volunteers alot, first generation to go to post secondary, local kid, citizenship award, trade interest, financial need, actively involved since gr nine.  Each member of council to consider this for May's meeting.


Parent Engagement - $500 in our account, comes automatically for next year.

Parent Reaching Out Grant - $1,000 in our account, next year the criteria is lengthy, Application due by June 5.  Let's use the same goals as this year on our application. 


Scholarship Workshop – May 9, 6:30  for dinner

Sandra and Brian to order food and drinks, serviettes, dessert, cutlery, plates


Balance of funds can be used for engagement:  postage, tablecloths, copying


Sara Forsyth potential babysitter, we may have two little children who will need care.


Angela will write a blurb for the next email to parents encouraging families to make a QSP order.


"The Pit"

Behind the school, beyond the existing soccer field, students hang out and get into mischief.  City owns the property.  Last year the City cleaned it up.  Now it is in a bad state again.  Brian has been in touch with our Councillor and the city will clean it up again and cut down the brush.

They will also ask for more police patrol.

October Open House – Council should have a presence to promote the school to incoming families
