School Council Minutes

November 20, 2018


Present:  Brian Hudson, Nicky Rossi, Christine Chung, Mary Zammit,

Student Advisory Council Report:  Ethan Chung, Vice President


Kidsfest – Dec 11, Hillside students will visit - cookie decorating, a gift, Santa

Winter Wonder Week – Spirit Week, Ugly sweater day, PJ day, talent show


Semi-Formal – to be in Mar/19, planning is beginning, last year’s DJ was excellent


Media Crew – new group – photographers and videographers that will come to events, their work supplements yearbook class, application forms are out

Town Hall – students can give new ideas to SAC


Principals Report:


Pathways Fair – Post Secondary reps were here on Nov 14/18, good exposure for all four grades, 11’s and 12’s will get six to eight workshops over two years.


Practice Literacy Test for the first time this year – Nov 14, all day gr 10’s participated in practice activities.  If student struggled they will be offered extra help through Counting on You.


Business Classes:  Workshops organized by students who learn about marketing and planning, events.


50th Anniversary Planning – Alumni Committee has been meeting, tentative schedule for May 24 for in school celebration, Sat May 25, 12-7pm will be for the larger community. From 2-4, past and present staff will visit.  Opening ceremony 4pm dignitaries.  Silent auction, 9pm, and social 7-11pm, profits will be split between school and cancer drive.  A new mascot is needed which is $5,000.  Funds will also be used for T-shirts for all students for a large group photo.

Water testing done in the summer when pipes have been sitting, lead accumulates.  Pipes were flushed and are good.  Monthly testing during the school year has never shown lead.

Treasurer’s Report:


$153.70 from food sales

Parent engagement fund – $270.22 remaining

$1,000 Parent Reaching Out Grants are paused by Ministry of Ed
