School Council Minutes
September 24, 2019
Present: Sylvia Daniels, Mary Zammit, Ian Cowan, Christine Chung, Sandra Forsythe, Anne Marie May, Ethan Chung, Robbie Bowman, Brian Hudson, Nicky Rossi, Kathy Geczi, Dana Garlock
SAC Report – Ethan Chung and Robbie Bowman, joint presidents:
SAC helped with grade nines on first day, helped with Orientation.
Hosted Grade Nine breakfast Sept 18, introduced them to clubs and teams.
Fall Fair Sept 20, all grades involved, lots of fun.
Next they are choosing grade nine rep, currently interviewing candidates.
Thurs Sept 26 is Terry Fox walk
Oct 2 Open House, parents will meet staff
Oct 4 is Friday Night Lights, football – Clarkson vs St Joan of Arc
Oct 30 clubs selling food in cafe to raise money
Oct 31 field hockey – an over the weekend meet
Halloween week – Spirit Week, activities and theme days, extra OFSSA students will be there so this should increase sales

Online Learning:
Discussed that online learning has waiting lists.
Principal's Report:
Looking for parents to support Open House for senior elementary, Christine and Anne Marie volunteered. Anne Marie will pick up apples to give out.
Oct 23, Parent Night, School Council will have a table, opportunity to fund raise selling food, SAC ambassadors will help, Sandra, Sylvia and Anne Marie. Brian will send reminder Oct 20 so that we can share what sale items we are bringing.
Dana oversees LINK crew who mentor grade nines.
There were no reorganization changes.
Staff professional learning is focused this year Equity and Inclusion, Empowering Modern Learners and Engage Math.
Lots of teachers offer formal and informal help at lunch. Staff are looking to centralize this extra help, in particular, including senior students as mentors.
Treasurer's Report
$56.10 currently in account plus Parent Engagement of $500, Reaching Out Fund is not currently offered by provincial government.
New Business
Clarkson Ratepayers Association wants to rent space for election debate, it is now $900, the rate has doubled recently. Funds go to Central Board Office, not Clarkson SS. Rates have gone up because old rates were not covering cost of offering rooms.
Cancer Drive will be week of April 20.
Teacher Appreciation Day will be Tues May 5.
