SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS

Applicants are offered places in the IB Program based on a two-step process:

  1. Once a student applies, there will be a review of their marks and of their written reponse. If a student meets the program criteria, they will move on to the second step in the process.
  2. If the student meets the program criteria, their application will be entered into the random selection process. In the random selection process, a computer will randomly assign a number to each applicant who has successfully met the criteria for each program and places will be offered. The random selection process is completed centrally at the board level and not at the school level.
  3. After 2 rounds of the random selection process, if there are students who did not receive a place, they will be put on the school's waitlist.
  4. Students may only accept one regional program offer. Once a student accepts an offer, all other regional program offers are automatically declined.
  5. All African, Black, First Nations, Inuit and Métis students who self-identify and meet the criteria for admission will be accepted into the program without participating in the random selection process.

Self-Identification
The Peel District School Board has a commitment to equity and inclusion for all. As such, based on a process of self-identification, admission to regional programs will reflect the need to address historically and statistically significant disproportionalities in enrollment as per student census data, ensuring equitable representation of African, Black, First Nations, Inuit and Métis students. All African, Black, First Nations, Inuit and Métis students who self-identify on the application form and meet the criteria for admission, will be accepted into the program without participating in the random selection process.

Students who are in an elementary regional program and interested in a secondary regional program will need to self-identify again when applying for secondary RLCP since it is a separate process and students do not automatically gain admittance to the program.

Documentation process for families new to Peel

Students who are not within the Peel Region or are new to Peel can also apply for Regional Learning Choices Programs. It's important to note that students who live outside of the Peel region will be offered spots once local students have been accommodated. Students who are new to Peel/did not attend a Peel board school in grade 7 and/or 8 will be required to submit their required documentation online in their application form and/or email it to the school when applying for the program. Schools may request original documentation at a future date.

The offers for secondary International Baccalaureate (IB) programs are made at a different time than the other RLCP programs – why?

The IB program is a “global” program compared to all of the other Regional Learning Choices Programs offered by the Peel board. There is a yearly, fixed cost that schools are charged in order to offer the IB programs. The fixed fee is charged regardless of whether the classes are full or not. There are mandatory additional courses that must be provided and staffed in grades 11 and 12 in order to be in compliance with the IB requirements. Because of these strict requirements, it is imperative that the grade 9 classes be filled in order to make the program sustainable over the four years. For additional information, please reference the FAQ section of the Regional Learning Choices Program website.
