As part of its ongoing work to address anti-Black racism, the Peel District School Board invites Peel Black students and families to watch a live online webinar on mental health and well-being support for Black families. The webinar will be broadcasted live on the board's YouTube channel on Aug. 5, 2020 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The webinar will include a panel presentation moderated by Peel board Black Principals Dawn Addison and Simone Johnson. Panelists include the following Black professionals from the Peel community:
· Monique Abbott, Youth and Community Service Manager, Malton Neighbourhood Services
· Angela Carter, Executive Director, Roots Community Services
· Dr. Andrea Myrie-Nurse, Registered Psychologist, Peel District School Board
Students and families are encouraged to submit their questions in advance of the webinar using Google Form. The panel will try to answer the questions submitted during the webinar.
This webinar is in partnership with Roots Community Services and Malton Neighbourhood Services.
As part of a special summer program, Black Mental Health staff are available to provide consultation and counselling support to Black students and families, as well as, referral to partnering community agencies for Black communities. If you would like to speak to a social worker or a psychology staff member, call 905-890-1010 ext. 2608 or email [email protected]. Staff will be available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until August 28. Additional resources will continue to be shared to support students and families.
