The ESL program at Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School welcomes students from all over the world. We believe that having a solid knowledge of English is the key to success in Canada: socially, academically and professionally.

In addition to core English courses, the following specialized courses are available for ESL students:
• geography
• science
• history
• drama

Students can get extra help through:
• a homework club
• peer tutors
• Counting on You program to prepare for the grade 10 literacy test

Extra programs for ESL students include:
• Culture Club
• annual trip to Niagara Falls
• Prizes: Math vector status, course awards and scholarships
• Multicultural, Settlement and Education Partnership program: help with school system, employment, housing, immigration and translation.

Over the past 15 years, our ESL teachers have worked in both Canadian and international settings, establishing and developing ESL programs, and learning about other cultures and languages. They continue their training through additional qualification courses, Peel board presentations and annual conferences. As well, our teachers participate in training other teachers (some from as far way as Mongolia!) about the needs of ESL students.
