This year’s event will be held virtually on Dec. 9, 2020 from 7 - 9 p.m. and will include:
- A keynote address by Peel board’s Interim Director of Education, Colleen Russell-Rawlins
- A collaborative orientation on School Councils by Penny Patrician, Education Officer with the Ministry of Education and the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)
- A panel discussion by Peel board staff, Parent Involvement Committee and community members on the following three key topics:
- Empowering, engaging and advocating for marginalized communities in schools
- Navigating changes to learning during COVID-19
- Parent engagement and advocacy in a virtual world
School Council members will learn about the critical role they play in fostering and nurturing student success and well-being and become familiar with the mandate of School Councils. To join the meeting on Dec. 9, please visit: www.pdsb.me/GreatStart
School Council members are encouraged to submit their questions in advance of the meeting on the School Council events page. Presenters and panelists will answers submitted questions throughout the event. Parents/guardians will also have the opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A format following the presentations.
